The Bridge Bentley Ramsbottom Trust was established by the amalgamation of the John
T. Bridge Trust with smaller trusts:
The
Mary Bentley and John Ramsbottom Trusts, the John T. Bridge Trust being the much
larger of the three .
The wording of the original trust deed is:
. . . assisting persons in want who shall be resident, at the time of such application, with in three miles measured in a direct line of the Parish Church at Holcombe .. . . and who shall also have been born within that area or shall have continually resided there, (except for occasional absence) for at least one year immediately preceding such application. (see map)
The trust is under the management of five trustees consisting: the Rector and Churchwardens of the Parish of Holcombe and Hawkshaw (ex officio) and two other persons to be elected by the Parochial Church Council of that parish.
The Charity Commissioners classification states:
What: General Charitable Purposes, Education/Training, Medical/Health/Sickness, Relief of Poverty, Religious activities.
Who: Children/Young people, Elderly/Old People, People with a disability/Special Needs.
How: Makes grants to individuals.
In recent times a proportion of the annual monies granted have been of an educational nature, (although the Trustees will consider any applications in cases of want). Specifically the Trustees have made book grant to students normally starting in their first year of an undergraduate course.
Other areas to which grants have recently been made: assistance in provision of stairlift and help in providing specialised equipment for a disabled child.
